About Us

If you would like to know more about us and how the store looks, then you might be interested in reading this November 2008 article from Natural Products (click here).

Sue's Pantry is situated in Langport at the heart of the Somerset Levels and Moors, the largest area of wet grassland in the United Kingdom. As such our local landscape has been shaped by enclosure and reclamation from the early 1300s onward. We enjoy a rich diversity of protected landscape and bio-diversity with many areas of scientific interest, including conservation projects and seek to reflect this in what is available in our shop. Having a cultural heritage linked to the apple the wassailing ritual is still practised in the area every 17th January in order to ensure the trees produce a generous harvest. This is a tradition which many view as the foundation of our continuing enjoyment of the wide variety of locally produced apple juices. The origins of wassailing are similar in time to those other local events of the Battle of Langport in the Civil War and the nearby Battle of Sedgemoor toward the end of the 17th Century. Being at the heart of the Levels, Langport is an ideal base from which to explore the area or walk the almost 50 mile long River Parrett Trail from its source in West Dorset to the Bristol Channel.

The shop was opened in the early 1980s to cater for the residents of the surrounding area seeking a source of natural products and whole foods. Many of these come from local suppliers and as such we seek to provide an environment in which we are pleased to discuss your needs, concerns and wishes. This was helped when in autumn 2003 we moved to our current larger location in Cheapside. The shop is fitted out with its original Edwardian mahogany shop fascias and floorboards so making it well worth a visit just to view let alone enjoy the local produce that we offer!

Our shop carries a large selection of vitamins, minerals, herbals, homeopathic, essential oils and flower remedies. We also stock a wide variety of vegetarian and vegan foods, covering the broad spectrum of special dietary needs. The shop also offers a vast range of specialist teas, herbal and others, pulses, honeys, local artisan cheeses, award winning jams and pickles, locally smoked fish and eel products, cereals etc. This includes an extensive range of dairy free as well as gluten and wheat free products. As many as possible of these we source from local suppliers and provide links to their web sites in order to help you find that something special! If you are in the area please do visit and let us know how else we may help you.
